Natural history apps & A.I. – blessing or curse?
Dave Pole
Tue 3 December at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm GMT
Many people use bird ID apps (eg Merlin) or plant ID apps (eg Flora Incognita) on their phones, and there are a host of others available, both free and paid. Many of these use AI to link a photo with an identification. Naturalists who have done the hard miles of learning from field guides might feel this is cheating, and there are many pitfalls for the unwary.
This talk will introduce some of these apps, discuss their accuracy and usefulness and explore some of the large open access natural history databases which can help us to find and record the wildlife we are looking for, instead of waiting and hoping it will come to us.
This is a Bath Natural History Society talk; tickets £3 on the door.
