Spotted on a Bath Natural History Society meeting. Attention was drawn initially to the white cocoon. Closer inspection revealed the dead caterpillar. The black marks are where wasp grubs attached themselves. The cocoon is a communal one but it is not obvious how a series of grubs can spin such a construction.
