Bath and Counties Archaeological Society - Field Evolution

10 October 2019

All talks are at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, 16 Queen Square, Bath, BA1 2HN. starting at 7.30pm, with an admission charge of £4 for members (on display of a current BACAS membership card), and £5 for the general public. Pay on the door.

This talk by Chris Paul describes how fields evolved and looks at how they are named and why.

It also gives an insight into historical uses and possible sites of interest and has been developed as part of the Shoscombe history initiative, to name all the fields on the Parish Tithe Map and compare them to the present names. The finished Tithe Map and information regarding local field names has been lodged with the British Archives at Kew. The present map and information will be sent to Kew when it is finished.

Chris Paul is a BACAS Member and Archivist for the Shoscombe History Society
