**Live** COVID and Society

The many trajectories of the COVID-19 pandemic have varied according to ecological, social, and technological factors. This talk will describe the interactions between major global forces - from ecological breakdown to social inequality - and what they mean for the next pandemic.

Emma works to help understand and prevent infectious disease emergence. Her research combines methods and perspectives from ecology, data science, and public health - in both academic and “real-world” contexts. She is currently a Sir Henry Wellcome research fellow at the University of Cambridge, where she models spillover and detection of rare viruses. She is the co-founder of Univursa, where she builds tools to help public health officials detect and respond to infectious disease threats.
