**Video** ‘Artisanal Mining – a precarious living for millions’

05 October 2020

‘The World Bank estimated in 2019 that over 40 million men, women and children work in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). Many millions more are supported by it. It is widespread in more than fifty countries, producing mainly gold and gemstones but also some critical metals for modern technology. Issues arise over safety, health, conflict and the environment. Yet in countries like the UK little is known about this activity. This talk for the BRLSI aims to spread awareness and knowledge of ASM, a precarious but essential living for so many.’
