Description:

The genus Stromatopora were colonial marrine invertebrates that laid down massive calcareous skeletons and were major reef builders in the Palaeozoic. These animals are almost certainly analogous to modern sclerosponges (occuring in various different classes of the phylum Porifera; the sponges). This is a sectioned specimen.
