An articulated right-hand gauntlet from a miniature suit of armour. Just 14cm (5_ inches) in length, it is made of individual shaped steel plates which are joined together with dome-head rivets. A separate thumb-piece attached by a leather strap

Miniature armour and weapons have always had a fascination for collectors. In the 19th century there was an enormous revival of interest in the art and artefacts of the Gothic and German Renaissance. This gauntlet probably dates from that period.
