Change & Challenge: The History of Bath’s Assembly Rooms

July 30, 2024

You’ve visited Bath’s Assembly Rooms but what do you actually know about them? Bath’s Upper Assembly Rooms have faced many threats over their 250 year life. After a glamorous heyday, the Rooms sank into neglect and disrepair: even a grand restoration in 1938 ended in ruin after a direct hit from an incendiary bomb in World War II. After extensive rebuilding and a new lease of life, today the National Trust tells the story of a multi-faceted building that encapsulates the social history of the city.

Join Dr Timothy Moore, Project Curator at the Bath Assembly Rooms and Lecturer at the University of Oxford, to explore how the Assembly Rooms continue to adapt and inspire, embodying the resilience of a city that thrives through challenge and change.
