Talk with live music

Ready for a talk with some live music?

Bluegrass, an American musical style, which started in the 1940s, is still going strong. Most of us recognise the sound of banjo-led bluegrass from films such as O Brother Where Art Thou and Bonnie and Clyde, and some will remember The Beverley Hillbillies on 1960s television.

Up until the 1970s bluegrass was an organic music created by passionate, single-minded musicians who learnt from each other. Since then its popularity has widened, with self study books appearing so people can now learn and enjoy it for themselves.

In this talk with accompanying live music from a four-piece bluegrass band, Leon Hunt and Mike Pryor will show how the expansion of bluegrass is influencing the music and taking it to new levels.

Join us at 16 Queen Square or watch live online!

Leon Hunt is one of the UK’s top 5-string banjo players, well known around the world for his many musical projects and publications, and Mike Pryor has been playing bluegrass all his life on mandolin, guitar and double bass including playing with Leon on the UK’s Number 1 bluegrass album back in 1994. He also plays bass in the Bill Smarme Rock ‘n’ Roll Trio.
