Trees, Food and You!

Fri 15 November at 10:00 am - 12:30 pm GMT

Being Human Festival

This free event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 7–16 November 2024.

Being Human is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For further information please see the Being Human Festival website here; or the full list of Being Human: Bath events here

Join us for a reflective “walkshop” based on the theme of decarbonisation through sustainable food, trees and forests, in three parts:

We will start with a public roundtable on the links between nature, biodiversity loss and sustainable food. Everyone will be encouraged to contribute to the discussion, facilitated by academic experts in religions, philosophies and ethics. It will also be fine to observe and listen only.

We will then head across the road from the Bath Royal and Literary Scientific Institution (BRLSI) into Queen Square, led by a Bathscape guide. Here we will spend time identifying the trees, learning about their cultural and historic significance and finding out about this small, attractive and important square of nature in the city centre.

Finally, we will return to BRLSI where our imaginations will be stimulated by creative soundscapes, material objects and the visual inspiration of a digital Forest of Imagination. Time for play, for connection, and for reflection.

Tickets are FREE and must be booked in advance here.
